P404–Air Sampling & Clearance Testing of Asbestos

Objectives

This module provides theoretical and practical knowledge in the techniques of air sampling and clearance testing of asbestos.

The module is at a proficiency level which aims to provide the delegate with the practical knowledge and skills to carry out the stated work.

The analysis of membrane filter samples by phase contrast microscopy is covered by module P403. In conjunction with BOHS module P403 – Asbestos Fibre Counting (PCM), this will cover the requirements of the ‘4-stage clearance procedure’.

2 days including theory, practical and examination
 

Prior Knowledge

Candidates are expected to be aware of the contents of HSG 248 (Asbestos: The Analysts Guide) and in particular Section 6 “Site assessment for reoccupation”. Candidates will also be expected to have prior experience of undertaking clearance testing including air sampling, fibre counting and issuing certificates of reoccupation.
